Announcing the Fifth Annual Barrymore Trilogy Blogathon

The Barrymores are entertainment royalty. Their influence in the world of entertainment is almost incalculable. If you are familiar with their work, you will come to realise how many homages have been paid to them, how many performers have affectionately imitated them (like Douglas Fairbanks Jr in Our Modern Maidens (1929), and how their legacy has inspired many who came after them.

The family has a long history in the business, stretching back over 150 years, with the matriarch of the family, Georgiana Emma Drew Barrymore, who had three children with her husband, Maurice Barrymore. These three children were Lionel, Ethel and John, and this trio of siblings were destined to be juggernauts on both stage and screen. Lionel would win an Academy Award, Ethel would be regarded as The First Lady of the American Theatre, and John would give one of the most defining performances as Hamlet  and be given the moniker of The Profile. 

Their legacy continues today, with John’s granddaughter, Drew, and each of them have been immortalised with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for motion pictures and radio. Their films continue to be regarded as classics of the silver screen, and along with the Hustons and Fondas, they are seen as the definition of family legacies in the entertainment industry.

And so it is my absolute pleasure to be able to host this blogathon with the divine Crystal of The Good Old Days of Classic Hollywood, who has graciously accepted my services as co-host.

The Rules:

1. Lionel, Ethel and John had very long careers and so their filmographies are very impressive. Because of this, we will be allowing only two duplicates per entry, and three posts per participant. Please only submit new work, as we won’t be accepting any posts written previously. We also won’t be accepting any posts on Drew this year, as we would very much like to keep things classic.
2. You can write about anything you like pertaining to the three siblings film career, television appearances they made, books written about them and their friendships and relationships with their fellow classic film stars etc.
3.  This blogathon is dedicated to the three siblings’ lives and work and we want to celebrate them, so let’s please keep things nice and not write anything derogatory or defamatory about them.
4.  The blogathon is being held on 13th to the 15th of August, 2019. Please submit your entries either before or by that date. If you find that you need a little extension, please let Crystal and I know.
5. Please take one of the banners and put it somewhere on your site to promote the blogathon. We’d also very much appreciate it if you included one of the banners in your post for the blogathon.
6. And most importantly, let us know what you would like to write about for the blogathon, by either commenting on this post, emailing me at palewriterblog@gmail.com, contacting me on twitter @noir_or_never, commenting on Crystal’s post or emailing her at carolelombardforever@yahoo.com . Please include the name of your blog and a link to it, as we don’t really want to act as amateur sleuths and hunt for you! Please tell me your twitter handle as well so I can promote everything on there. If you don’t have a blog, that’s totally fine, just send your entry onto us and we’ll post it for you.
